US Embassy in India Encourages Indian Nationals to Apply for H and L Visas » ImmigrationUSA

A twelve-day program from the U.S. Embassy in India is aimed at Indian nationals, promoting interested and qualified individuals to apply for an H-1B and L-1 visa. The program announced by the U.S. Embassy has begun and will continue through Christmas. The Embassy further stated there is a 17% increase in H & L visas. These visas are for Temporary Workers in a Specialty Occupation. In addition, the embassy stated waiting times have been reduced for these visas. The emphasis from the Embassy is on reuniting families who are eligible to work in the U.S.

The L-1 visa allows for intracompany transfers for those in managerial or executive positions to the U.S. These visas also require specialized knowledge. There is no L-1 visa cap.

H-1B gives qualified professionals the ability to live and work in the U.S. on a temporary basis. There is an annual cap of 65,000 H-1B visas, with an additional 20,000 targeted at those with master’s degrees or higher. Congress sets the cap.
